Welcome to Cedar Counselling, we are a Counselling Charity based in South Birmingham. Our aim is to provide accessible Counselling and Psychotherapy to individual adults, couples, children and young people. Private therapy costs are out of reach for some, statutory services are offering limited sessions with extensive waiting lists. This makes our service unique, in the sense that it bridges the gap between private costs and the limitations of statutory services. We work hard to ensure that 90% of all clients start therapy within 2-4 weeks following assessment, and are entitled to on-going therapy as opposed to the time limited therapy.
We believe that Counselling and Psychotherapy should be available to all. Therefore, we assess all new clients to ensure that they pay what they can afford; offering therapy sessions from as low as £15. We receive no funding and the service runs due to therapists offering their time on a voluntary basis and other therapists offering their time at a reduced rate. We have a team of 60 therapists, some of which are in advanced training and some qualified. As a non-profit organisation, all client’s donations are spent on delivery and improvement of the service.
Making the decision to come for Counselling can be a daunting prospect, that is why we have created an environment which is warm, friendly and relaxed. Our core philosophy at Cedar is about helping you develop and sustain healthy and rewarding relationships with other. We believe that one of the most helpful parts of therapy is the availability of another human being, who has no preconception of you and no personal agenda, other than to be relationship with you and be helpful in guiding you in your right direction.
You may choose to bring to therapy issues that involve areas of your life which you feel troubled by, either in your personal or professional life. Some issues brought to therapy may involve low self-esteem and confidence, relationship problems, sexuality and gender difficulties, anxiety, depression, work related stress, bereavement, loss, abuse, rape, identity and trauma. There is real value in talking and exploring these difficulties with a trained professional who can support you when feeling stuck and confused about your life.
The Counsellors at Cedar Counselling can offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential place for people to explore issues that are difficult to discuss with family or friends. We are committed to ensuring that all our clients experience a safe and confidential service, all our counsellors are fully trained or in advance training.
There are no maximum number of sessions. Our counsellors on average work with us for around 2 years, although it is often longer. We believe that counselling can have life enhancing changes.
The First Step
Contacting a counselling service can be daunting, all our telephone calls and enquiries are treated with the strictest confidence. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and if you would like to explore counselling further we can arrange an initial assessment.
At the initial assessment, you will have the chance to talk freely about your situation and ask questions about counselling. Assessments are charged at £25 for individuals and £40 for couples. After the initial assessment, our fees are based on a sliding scale based on individual circumstances.
